Helms Mobile Kitchen: Industrial Eats with Homemade Heart
In a sea of industrial concrete, Helms Mobile Kitchen stands out as a beacon of handcrafted burgers and homemade charm. Family-owned and lovingly operated by Dan and Kelly Helm, this joint has been serving up goodness since 2015. With their new brick-and-mortar location opening last year, they’re proving that some things only get better with time. Every detail, from the homemade sauces to the renovation, was lovingly crafted by the Helm family—it’s a true passion project.

Burgers Built to Impress
I kicked things off with the Little E Burger—an explosion of barbecue sauce, Swiss cheese, mushrooms, onions, and garlic aioli, layered with crisp lettuce and tomato. For $15, it’s a satisfying meal with fries included (though you can swap sides for $3 if you’re feeling adventurous). The real star here? That garlic aioli—it’s dangerously good. I already know I’ll be back to try the Big Dog, their double smash burger piled high with sautéed onions and melty cheese. It’s calling my name.

Nacho Average Tots
Speaking of comfort food, I couldn’t resist trying the Nacho Tots—crispy tater tots blanketed with cheese, salsa, sour cream, and jalapeños. At $12, they hit the snack-time sweet spot, and you can level up with beef, chicken, or veggies for an extra $4. They’re the kind of comfort food you didn’t know you needed until you taste them.

Mac Balls on the Radar
I’ll admit, I didn’t get around to trying the Mac Balls this time, but they’re at the top of my list for the next visit. Breaded and deep-fried mac & cheese draped in cheese sauce? It sounds like the perfect guilty pleasure—and frankly, I’m ready for it.
A Cozy, Personal Touch
Helms Mobile Kitchen feels like a hidden gem you’re glad you stumbled upon—and the kind you’ll definitely tell others about. Dan and Kelly’s attention to detail goes beyond food. They renovated the space themselves, creating a vibe that’s cozy yet no-fuss. With sunlight streaming through the windows, comic-lined tables, and seasonal touches like pumpkins on the ledge, it’s the kind of place where every bite feels just a bit more special.
Pastries and Quick Bites
Their pastries aren’t just an afterthought, either. On display, you’ll find salted caramel cookies, blueberry streusel muffins, and a pumpkin bread with cream cheese icing that feels tailor-made for autumn cravings. And with a hotline now open for quick grab-and-go orders, Helms is ready to keep you fed even when you’re on the move.

Come Back for the Chicken Burgers
The staff didn’t just recommend their hand-breaded chicken burgers—they insisted. And honestly, with that garlic aioli in play, who am I to argue? I’m already plotting my return to make it happen.
Helms Mobile Kitchen isn’t just feeding appetites—it’s become a go-to spot for the community, where regulars feel like family, and newcomers are always welcomed with a smile. Dan and Kelly aren’t just running a restaurant—they’re creating a place where great food and genuine hospitality meet.
And with the hotline now open, even a quick lunch will feel like a personal treat—because why wait for comfort food when it’s just a call away?
